The Fire Protection Technicians Network will be launching a new educational initiative to combat the growing number of substandard inspections being performed on fire protection equipment by various fire service providers in British Columbia. The course is two days. Day one is for building officials and will cover installation, verification (including audibility and intelligibility testing), and commissioning (integrated testing of life safety systems). Day two is for FPO’s and will cover annual testing of fire alarm systems, extinguishment systems (water based and releasing systems), smoke control, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and passive building life safety equipment (fire doors and closures, fire stopping, etc.). Those members interested in participating in both sessions will have to register on the respective page (and the cost will be $180.00).
These seminars will be held in Victoria, Nanaimo, Vancouver (Burnaby), Fraser Valley (Abbotsford), Kelowna, Kamloops, Prince George, Dawson Creek, Castlegar and Cranbrook. Cost for members of FPOABC or EIABC will be $90.00 – regular cost is $135.00 (includes lunch, beverages and course materials).
This is significantly different from the CFAA course because it offers an expanded presentation on Building Life Safety Systems and Testing requirements and is based on British Columbia Fire Code (2012). Courses will feature a HANDS ON demonstration of an addressable fire alarm system (including sprinkler flow and supervisory devices).
