JIBC Final Deadlines for Completion of Fire Fighter I and BC Fire Fighter I/II Programs

June 23, 2017
To All Departments:
REMINDER: Final Deadlines for Completion of Fire Fighter I and BC Fire Fighter I/II Programs

The JIBC Fire & Safety Division (FSD) sent a notification in February 2017 identifying June 30, 2017 as the end date for the BC Fire Fighter I and BC Fire Fighter I/II programs. This memo is a final reminder to all Fire Departments that members currently completing BC Fire Fighter I or BC Fire Fighter I/II programs have until June 30, 2017 to complete modules in these programs. After June 30, exams will no longer be available or issued. FSD will process any practical evaluations submitted on or before July 15, 2017.

Fire Service members who have not completed all the modules in either program can be transitioned into the new Interior or Full Service Fire Fighter Operations programs, which replace Fire Fighter I and BC Fire Fighter I/II, and fully align with the training standards set in the BC Structure Firefighters Competency and Training Playbook. HZMT-1100 Hazardous Materials Awareness,

HZMT-1110 Hazardous Materials Operations, FIRE-1071 Live Fire I and FIRE-1017 Live Fire II are included in the new programs as part of the Playbook so fire departments are able to continue with completing these components.

Transition to Interior Fire Fighter Operations from Fire Fighter I

A transition matrix is available that outlines the eligible transfer credits from BC Fire Fighter I/II to the Interior Fire Fighter Operations program. Fire Departments needing to transition members from Fire Fighter I to the Interior Fire Fighter Operations program are asked to complete the necessary Transition Form.

Transition to Full Service Fire Fighter Operations from BC Fire Fighter I/II

A transition matrix is available that outlines the eligible transfer credits from BC Fire Fighter I/II to the Full Service Fire Fighter Operations program. Fire Departments needing to transition members from BC Fire Fighter I/II to the Full Service Fire Fighter Operations program are asked to complete the necessary Transition Form.

The FSD is proud to be your educational provider and looking forward to supporting you in all of your training and educational needs. Please refer to our website (http://www.jibc.ca/fire) for our latest news and programming information.
