Wildfire Technician
$60,998.61 - $69,422.06 annually

The Kamloops Fire Centre will be running a competition to create an eligibility list for Wildfire
Technician vacancies within their region. The purpose of this posting is to create an eligibility list for
future temporary, auxiliary, and/or permanent opportunities.

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) is a unique program of government tasked with the responsibility of
preventing and managing wildfire on the landscape. With a workforce of approximately 1600
people, the program’s staff are dedicated to undertaking the BCWS mandate in delivering effective
wildfire management and emergency response support to protect values, while encouraging
sustainable, healthy and resilient ecosystems.

The Wildfire Technician is responsible for performing a core set of functions related to fire
response and fire management. You will supervise staff including assignment of work,
development and evaluation of performance plans and approval of leave. This role conducts or
supports Fire Origin Cause determinations. This includes eliminating all possible fire origins and
developing reports to support and rationalize findings, testifying as a witness when required. In
this role, you will also assist with the planning and implementing of wildfire preparedness,
response and prevention initiatives with clients, partners and stakeholders.

Qualifications for this role include:
• Degree in a field related to forestry, resource management or equivalent knowledge, plus
one (1) year related experience; OR,
• Technical diploma in a field related to forestry, resource management, or equivalent
knowledge, plus three (3) years related experience; OR,
• Grade 12 plus five (5) years related experience; OR,
• An equivalent combination of education, training and experience may be considered; AND,
       o Related experience is defined as operations or other disciplines related to natural
          resource management.
• Supervisory experience.
• Preference may be given to candidates with Incident Commander 4 (IC4) or higher.
• Valid class 5 driver licence or an equivalent.
